+Very Rev. Fr. Jim King (Deceased)

Very Reverend Father Jim King fell asleep in the Lord on January 7, 2014, leaving behind his wife, Khouria Peggy King; their 3 children and 8 grandchildren.

Fr. Jim was originally from Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from school and receiving his dental license, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Riverside, California at March AFB during the early years of the Vietnam conflict. He led Young Life clubs in Riverside, and came Isla Vista with his family in 1972. He was ordained to the diaconate of Feb. 8, 1987, was elevated to the priesthood on Feb. 15, 1987, and elevated to archpriest by Bishop JOSEPH of Los Angeles and the West on Jan. 27, 2007. Even while being active in the private practice of dentistry, Fr. Jim's primary duties were in serving as a substitute priest for clergy in all jurisdictions throughout Southern California and the Southwest primarily, but he traveled as far as St. Louis, Missouri and Mesa, Arizona to serve mission churches that were still awaiting the assignment of a permanent priest.

Fr. Jim enjoyed taking time to do research in the areas of homiletics and current events.  He is deeply missed by our parish, by his patients, and by many Orthodox people across the country.
